Whether you’re looking to buy or sell your home, the process can be stressful, especially when you know very little about real estate.
Well, to make your life a little easier, here are five tips to help you navigate the process of buying or selling a house.
- Know that your house smells
It may not be a bad smell, but it’s most likely that your house has a distinct scent to it, even if you can’t smell it. It’s best to have a friend or family member who does not live there come by and smell the place to give you an honest opinion so you can get rid of it before potential buyers walk through.
- Be ready at all times
You never know when a last-minute showing will happen, so it’s better to be prepared at all times. Be sure to pick up each room and make your beds in the morning before leaving in case your house is shown while you’re not there.
- Do your research
This might be obvious but surprisingly, there are some things that your realtor doesn’t have to tell a potential buyer, like if a house has some ghostly activity going on. So go online and research your potential new home, or you can even ask neighbors as they could be a great source of information.
- Remove personal items before a showing
You might think leaving personal items out make the place look more homey, but it actually makes it more difficult for potential buyers to envision themselves in the home. So, put away the pictures and drawings your kids made you, and selling your house will be so much easier.
- If you love a property, don’t be afraid to show it
If you think you found the home of your dreams, realtors recommend writing a letter to the seller. A handwritten note can go a long way and help you stand out from other potential buyers.
