Last week, the Coronavirus caused a shutdown of many businesses and institutions around the world. This week, that continues, as Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the closing of several high-crowd businesses, such as restaurants, gyms, and movie theaters.

Now that most of us are socially distancing ourselves and staying at home for an unknown amount of time, you might be getting quite bored. But don’t worry! Here’s a list of things you can do or (virtually) go to from the comfort of your home.

  1. Go to Disney!

Disneyland and Disney World announced their temporary closing last week, but that isn’t stopping them from spreading the Disney magic! You can go on a virtual ride of some of their most popular attractions, like Space Mountain or It’s a Small World, right from your computer. Ready to take a ride? Click here.

  1. Workout

Just because the gyms are closed doesn’t mean you can’t get your daily workout in. In fact, several gyms, including Planet Fitness and LA Fitness, are providing online workouts through their app or on their social media pages. If you aren’t a member of a gym, you can go on YouTube and look up workouts for free.

  1. Visit Museums Around the World

Several cultural institutions around the world are releasing virtual tours of their museums for you folks at home to enjoy! Some include The Art Institute of Chicago, The Vatican Museums in Italy, and The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. For a list of more museums, click here.

  1. Attend Plays and Concerts

If museums aren’t your cup of tea, consider virtually attending operas, symphonies, concerts, or Broadway shows right from your bed. NYC’s Metropolitan Opera is currently closed, but they are streaming past showings for free online in the meantime. Broadway Theaters are doing the same thing, except not for free. They created their own streaming service, BroadwayHD, that you can use for $8.99/month or use for a week with their free trial. If neither of those are your thing and you prefer a concert by your favorite artists, you might be in luck. Some top artists, including John Legend, are streaming free concerts right to your home. How cool is that?! Check out their Instagrams for the free stream. For more information, click here.

  1. Take up a New Hobby

Always wanted to learn how to cook, or do ballet? Well, now’s your chance! Several people and institutions are providing free classes online. For instance, Chef Massimo Bottura is streaming free cooking lessons on his Instagram called Kitchen Quarantine for those desiring chefs out there. Cleveland Inner City Ballet is doing the same in attempt to keep students moving through the closing, but it is open to anyone online. You can access their classes on their Facebook page.

  1. Take a Class

Want to learn something new? Ivy League schools including Harvard and Cornell are offering 450 online courses for free in all sorts of academic areas! If you have kids, there are several institutions offering classes for them as well including Schoolastic, Craft Knife, and ABCMouse/Adventure Academy.

  1. Stream Free Movies and Shows

This might be what you’re doing already to pass the time, but there are some streaming services that are now providing free movies and shows that you may not know are being offered. YouTube is streaming shows and movies for free with ads, which isn’t bad considering IT’S FREE! Thanks, YouTube.

Are there any hobbies or events you want to see but weren’t listed? Google what you’re looking for! Who knows, it might be available online. Remember to stay as positive as possible during these times and to stay safe and healthy!
