Matthew Paulk, a City Honors grad, felt that there was something missing from his community. He had noticed that many of the seniors and disabled were lacking something from their day to day lives.
Matthew Paulk started out by selling insurance benefits to the seniors in his community. He saw that there was not much going on in their day to day routine, and saw fit to do what he could to improve their lives.
With that being said, Oasis was founded.
In the small town of Lovejoy, Oasis is a place where seniors and those with disabilities go to socialize. That way, they don’t spend their days alone. Oasis does fieldtrips, breakfast, and lunch, to provide joy for its members. Paulk makes sure that all his members are getting proper care that they need. From each person getting on the van okay, breakfast is prepared, volunteers are ready; he makes sure that each person is receiving the emotional support they need.
Paulk tries his best to form connections with these people to ensure that they’re wellbeing is in check, and even for a little bit of self-gratification. Seeing the joy in their faces is infectious, and that joy spills over to him and brings a happiness he cannot describe.
Join Oasis in their Grand Opening dinner/dance from 4pm-7pm on Friday, February 14th at Spirit of Truth Urban Ministries at 115 Gold Street in Buffalo.
