At the beginning of January, City of Buffalo official Kevin Helfer issued 14 speed cameras to monitor school zones to crack down on speeding in those areas.
Two of those cameras have been placed on Bailey Ave. near Amherst St., one pointing north and the other pointing south.
The camera placement has people confused considering there is no school in that section of Bailey Ave. and has never been considered a school zone until now.
Although there is not a school in that area, there is a daycare, Buffalo Promise Neighborhood Children’s Academy, about 300 feet away from the intersection.
According to New York State law, daycare facilities are considered school zones, so the cameras are necessary for the safety of the children in their care.
If you are going 26-mph or faster in the 15-mph zone, the camera takes a picture of you and your vehicle and mails you a fine of $50. But, the owner of the car is the person who is fined, not the driver.
